Luteolin is a flavonoid that is commonly found in a variety of plants, fruits, and vegetables that have been used for centuries in Chinese medicine. More recently it has been discovered that luteolin can block aromatase enzymes.

These enzymes convert testosterone into estrogen, which is the female sex hormone. Luteolin is able to do this because this flavanoid interferes with the production of estrogens. If there’s a rise in estrogen, this creates a hormone imbalance which means testosterone has fallen, which is the opposite desired effect when looking to increase strength, muscle size, and libido (to name a few). Therefore, the primary function of luteolin is to stop a surge of estrogen which would harm testosterone levels.
